Artist's Comments
This was my final piece for my project on; Art in boxes- a contempory issue.
I chose eating disorders because it is a subject close to my heart, and wanted to show how the media influences many men and women. The 'vomit' is multicoloured, with the butterflies and flowers to show how the media portrays anorexia and bulimia as glamourous.
The face is made out of modrock, which took me an hour or so to make, another hour to paint and stick on the eyelashes & cut a wig up and get that on too.
The inside of the box i painted black, and around the box there are diary entries of eatinbg disorded girls, lots of magazine cuttings, internet found images, and drawings of my own.
To make the vomit i made strips of ribbon from multicoloured material and threaded it through chicken wire.
The diet pills are fake, made from model-magic, and handpainted.
All in all it took me about 10 hours...the thing is huge.
